Whatcom County is located in the northwest corner of Washington State
along the Canadian border. The Eastern region is mostly rugged
mountain peaks in the Cascade Range highlighted by Mt. Baker,
the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, and the North Cascades
National Park. The Western region is flatland where nearly all
of the county's residents live and is comprised heavily of farmland.
The 170,000 citizens of Whatcom County are friendly and outgoing,
despite the usually overcast conditions and persistent light rain.
The late Spring and the Summer feature warm, sunny days, while
the Winter produces occasional snow while maintaining a warmer
climate due to the proximity of the Puget Sound. Temeratures rarely
reach extremes and the environment is clean and extraordinarily
livable.
Recreation seekers can find plenty to do in Whatcom County, including
hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, and a
plethora of team sports through various clubs and programs. The
County is home to 14 golf courses spread from the coast to the
foothills. The annual 85-mile Ski-to-Sea Race highlights the recreational
opportunities of the county each Memorial Day weekend.
The population of the county is diverse and friendly. There is
a wide range of services, from the average American cookie-cutter
offerings, to a number of unique stores, restaurants, and galleries.
Home to a university, a community college, and a number of excellent
high schools, Whatcom County is an open and welcoming community
to people from all over.
