The Mt. Baker area is a large area comprised of several small towns
along the Mount Baker Highway (WA 542).
There's Deming, a small town noted for the Nooksack River Casino.
Then there's Kendall,
a small crossroads community with a local school and a couple
convenience stores with large selections and freindly locals.
Continuing up the highway, one arrives at Maple Falls, a small
town with a few nice restaurants that are frequented by recreation-seekers
from either Mt. Baker or nearby Silver Lake.
Finally, 8 miles
up the road is Glacier, a small community built on serving yet
more recreationists year-round with lodging, food, and a few other
services. 7 miles beyond Glacier is Nooksack Falls, located within the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National
Forest, and the highway from Glacier to the end is a nationally
recognized scenic route, touted by some to be the 2nd-best place
to see fall colors (after Vermont, of course!).
