Bellingham is the seat of Whatcom County. Located on Bellingham Bay, it is a diverse city with a wide range of businesses, from industrial to high tech. It is the home to Western Washington University, a college known for its production of education professionals in the Northwest, and the local school district benefits directly.
Bellingham boasts a wide range of services and offerings, from the usual American choices when it comes to shopping and restaurants to numerous specialty stores that offer services and goods usually only found in larger cities. Bellingham also boasts the Fairhaven district, an historic area at the south end of Bellingham Bay.
